What makes us so special?
Let’s start at the beginning.
My name is Eli Green. I am the owner of The Backbeat Academy.
I have been a working drummer & teacher since I was 17 years old.
When I started drum lessons at age 7, I never imagined my new hobby could evolve into the life & career that it has - it was hard enough just trying to hold on to the sticks!
I began my drumming journey as a frustrated young kid who needed an outlet for the stresses of a messy home life.
That outlet came in the form of drumming and turned into the best therapy I could have ever asked for!
It’s because of this entry into the world of music education that I understand that not every student aims to be the best drummer in the world. Some students just need a weekly hang out, to learn some cool songs in a fun environment and blow off steam. Where others want to take on the world and challenge themselves to be the best.
There’s no right or wrong - A drum school should cater to everyone’s age, background, abilities and goals.
Not only did this amazing instrument help me navigate my childhood, they took me on a journey that has been nothing but rewarding. From my early beginnings practicing for hours in my bedroom to performing on the largest stages our country has to offer - it’s been one wild ride!
Now it’s my turn to give back to the drumming community.
That’s why I built The Backbeat Academy.
The Backbeat Academy is a purpose built studio designed to offer every student who walks through the door the ability to choose their own drumming destiny.
We are a movement against the one-size-fits-all approach offered by most music colleges & generic school and online drum teachers.

Study Online From Home
In this post-pandemic world, we offer HQ Studio quality online drum lessons, live streamed straight to your living room so you can learn with peace of mind without sacrificing your education.

Comfortable Facilities
Come early to your lesson and warm up on our custom silent practice kit, or relax, kick back on the couch and enjoy some of the classic drumming videos on the tv and flip through the drum magazines in our waiting area. There’s also lots of gear on show and available to try out while you wait!
Get Your Name Out There
Just learned a cool new pattern and want to show it off? We offer Professional Video & Audio recording services to quickly and easily capture your new skills so you can spread the word of your abilities on social media. (or just have something cool to show Grandma.)
Play Live On Stage
Each year we host a student showcase at a gorgeous live music venue here in Adelaide. Students perform their favourite song to a warm and welcoming crowd of friends, family, fellow students and some of SA’s best drummers.
